Love taking things apart? Seeing how things work? Destroying stuff? From fighter jets to flashlights you can dig into the inner workings of objects you've always wondered about in the (relative) safety of Virtual Reality.

STEAM Activities

Families are invited to join us for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, & Math (STEAM) gadgets and engage in STEAM-based activities! Get your kindergarten - fifth grader excited about learning at this program which takes place on the fourth Saturday of the month through March.

Inventing with Makey Makey

January 27 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

By connecting everyday objects to computer programs, Makey Makey electronic boards enable anyone to become an inventor. At this workshop for youth ages twelve and above, students will have fun making interactive projects like playing musical notes when touching fruit.

Drop-in STEAM Space

Drop in to STEAM Space for open makerspace time. Build on our LEGO wall, create with craft supplies, engineer cardboard structures, make paper circuits, or turn a banana into a piano. Your only limit is your imagination! This program is for 8-13 year olds.

2019-2020 Water Game Jam

The 2019-2020 Water Game Jam will focus on aquatic ecosystems in Iowa and encourage students to incorporate field investigation data and observations, online data resources and investigations in a new game idea. Game ideas are submitted via a 4-minute video to be considered for recognition. A panel of game and science experts will use a scoring rubric to determine top analog and digital games in two age categories (Grades 3-5 and 6-8).

Girls Love Code

An after-school club for girls in 3rd-5th grade who are interested in learning to code. The club is for beginners to explore coding in a fun and friendly environment. Registration is required.

NINETEEN STEM BEST MODELS TAKING IT UP A NOTCH

Building a culture to grow and expand workplace experiences, the STEM BEST Program encourages teachers and industry professionals to work side-by-side on curriculum and projects that give students actual workplace experience and an understanding of the opportunities and required skills for careers in STEM fields.
